Patrick Witzak is currently a senior researcher (PostDoc) in the interdisciplinary DFG, ESRC and ANR collaborative project "European Works Councils after Brexit". He is based at the Chair for the Sociology of Digital Transformation at the Institute of Applied Work Science at the Ruhr University Bochum, where he researches and teaches on the governance of transnational supply chains and the platform economy in the fields of sociology, political science and management. In addition, he is an external lecturer in the Transdisciplinary Course Program at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen.
During his doctorate, he was a Visiting PhD Candidate at the Departamento de Sociología y Antropología Social at the Universitat de València and at the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University and completed a stay as a guest at the headquarters of the International Labour Organization. After completing his PhD, he was a visiting postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Global Work and Employment at Rutgers University and a Montague Burton Visiting Fellow at the Cardiff Business School at Cardiff University.
His research has been published and presented in prestigious journals, conferences and workshops. He obtained the academic degree of Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen and completed the Master of Arts in Sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen with the support of the Hans Böckler Foundation. He subsequently completed his doctorate at the University of Duisburg-Essen with a doctoral scholarship from the Hans Böckler Foundation.
