Lecture: "Practical aspects of instrumentation: Experimental High Energy Astrophysics"

High energy astrophysics is a modern field of astrophysics studying the universe in very high energy gamma rays, cosmic rays, high energy neutrinos, as well as searching for dark matter. In this course we will learn how the extreme universe of largely unknown phenomena can be studied from the  ground, from space, under the ground and under the sea using well understood interactions of matter and radiation. An overview of current observatories and experiments will be provided, and we will explore various detection techniques and methodology to improve the measurements. We will finish the course with discussion of recent scientific highlights in the field.

The lecture will be given by the TU-Dortmund guest Professor Daniel Mazin (Tokyo University).
