On August 8, 2023, the Photobiotechnology welcomed a delegation of seven scientists surrounding Prof. Jian Xu from the Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) in Qingdao. We were very glad that after a long break due to the pandemic we could experience scientific exchange in person again. After a scientific symposium and a laboratory tour by our Chinese PhD students, we enjoyed an excursion to the University of Essen/Duisburg. There we experienced an exciting guided tour through the algae culture collection by curator Dr. Marks, and afterwards an interactive tour through the show greenhouses at the Gruga Park with Dr. Wittmann. The rich program was concluded by a visit to the Zollverein Coal Mine.
