The Wind Engineering and Fluid Mechanics working group at Ruhr-Universität Bochum organized a workshop as part of the COST action “MODENERLANDS - Modular Energy Islands for Sustainability and Resilience” on 2 and 3 September 2024 at the Beckmannshof at the Botanical Garden of Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
The aim of MODENERLANDS is to bundle and systematize the efforts of various research and development groups working on sustainable energy and related technologies, in particular wind, solar and wave energy. This is done with the aim of taking energy islands into account in the planning, design and development of future renewable energy infrastructures in Europe.
The Institute of Wind Engineering and Fluid Mechanics at the Ruhr University Bochum, together with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and supported by the German Research Foundation (project number: 493357786), organised the symposium, which brought together scientists, specialists and experts from industry and provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge on vortex-induced vibrations, bluff-body aerodynamics, interference galloping on wind turbine support structures and the associated standardisation.
